Parent Consultation

Life as a parent can be filled with wonder and joy. We know that parents love their children immensely and want to have healthy relationships with them. It is common for parents to have questions about their child’s behaviour or temperament, and how to best manage the family’s needs. At Tandem, we offer parent consultation to help you understand your child and the best ways to support their mental health.

When children are experiencing challenges – whether stemming from developmental differences or from emotional or behavioural regulation – we offer sessions to increase parent skill and confidence and develop effective approaches to the concern. We work within an attachment-based framework and positive parenting approach to help you enhance the parent-child bond. Our approach is individually tailored to meet the needs of each family; please contact us for more information about how we can help.

Tandem Psychology offers virtual appointments through the use of ‘Jane’, a secure online platform, or in-person at 8707 50 St. NW. Edmonton, Alberta. Sharing space with the Inspire Centre for Learning team!

Topics you can discuss with us:

  • Challenging behaviour (tantrums, defiance, aggression)
  • Emotional regulation
  • Anxiety
  • Appropriate discipline
  • Sleep habits
  • Development of daily life skills
  • Setting effective limits and consequences
  • Fostering the relationship between parents and children
  • Coping after your child receives a diagnosis; supporting your needs as well as the needs of your child

Parents play a vital role in their children’s mental health!

“Beneath every behaviour there is a feeling and beneath each feeling is a need. When we meet that need rather than focus on the behaviour, we begin to deal with the cause, not the symptom.” Ashleigh Warner
